I Love Crocks!

In this post I’m going to show you why I love crocks so much!

I LOVE crocks. But let me just clarify one thing…I’m not talking about those ugly plastic shoes. Sure my son loves them and I think they are great for kids in the summer {you might love them too and that’s perfectly okay, they’re just not for me}.

I’m talking about large ceramic crocks where preserves were stored in a long time ago. Like these babies!

I don’t know what it is that I love about them so much. Maybe the neutral color? The generous size where you can put anything in them or just have that they can sit there and look pretty? I’ve had three smaller ones for about 15 years now. I use them for holding kitchen utensils. And {sniff, sniff} one of them broke during a move. I have the lids for these too and lids are hard to find!

All of my crocks are from here in Canada. You can see the label on the one above says Medalta Potteries in Redcliff, Alberta. And did you know they had a 3,000 year warranty?? Um….what?? Check it out here:  Medalta
Recently, I’ve received 3 amazing gifts!!!!!! I got 2 HUGE crocks and a wooden butter crate. Check them out.

Look at this, a size 10!! It’s massive! It even has handles attached. I’m not sure exactly what I’m going to do with these three amazing gifts but I have some ideas so I’ll keep you posted 😉  I’m thinking maybe a not so heavy plant in the No. 10. The No. 10 crock and the wooden butter crate were given to me from a special person in my life and the No. 3 crock was recently given to me by my hubby {of course, also a special person in my life, love you boo!}. I love the color on it. It has a bit of a different hue.

Um…can I get a shot without a kid in it please??

And here is one that’s a replica from Pottery Barn.

I use it to hold extra spoons. Because where else can you store all your Spiderman spoons?

  2. Hey Jamie! I adore crocks – I have two of the No 10 ones. I use one as a planter and one as my garbage can in the kitchen. They’re fabulous, but HEAVY!!!

    Happy Easter!

    1. Two No. 10s???? So jealous. My No.10 has a huge crack in the bottom so I’m worried about a heavy plant but I’m hoping to find something in there that will look nice. The possibilities are endless!
      Have a wonderful Easter 😉

  3. I love your wonderful crocks! I have a crown crock I found last year. I had been wanting one for awhile and was so excited when I found it for only $12.00. I keep utensils in mine too, but I might put a small tree in it at Christmas time. Love how your kids are sneaking into your photos! Very cute! 🙂

    1. A crown crock? I don’t even know what that is! Please tell me! Does it have a crown on the front? OMG how dreamy! I love the Christmas tree idea too. I’ve thought of doing that with a small tree but haven’t tried. Maybe this Christmas 😉 Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Great crocks and I also love the Canadian butter crate. They look great by your bench. I often admire them but haven’t been able to buy any yet. One day though. I have seen some of the butter crates too, but very pricey here.

  5. I had a little one with a blue stripe around the neck that was gorgeous filled with tulips, but it broke in a move a few years ago. I need to start looking for some new ones! — Min

  6. Love that giant crock – wow! I haven’t yet collected these but I may just have to start!

  7. Definitely.

Love English, French, and Early American cobalt decorated salt-glazed. I have a 10 gallon Redwing too.

Oh, do be careful with planting if you have it outside. They can crack with the temperature variations. Ask me how I know!

    1. Oh wow, that sounds gorgeous! Thanks for the tip! I was planning on possibly putting a houseplant in mine but definitely not outdoors. Mine does have a large crack around the bottom and I bet that’s why! {previous owners}

  8. What lovely gifts, Jamie! I have to say I’ve never really given crocks a thought before, but they look great in your home. One question – how do you keep the receipt for a 3000 year warranty – you know if it breaks in the next 3000 years?! Thanks for sharing at my link party.

  9. WOW!! They are just great! I love them too!

Thanks so much for sharing this at The DIY Dreamer… From Dream To Reality! I’m looking forward to seeing what you link up tomorrow evening!

      1. Jamie, Just stumbled onto your blog…loving it. I adore your crock collection. My collection started a few years ago after my Grandmother passed. She had so much great stuff in her basement. Family treasures that mean so much to me. The largest crock was a 12 with glorious chippy red painted handles. I use the crocks to store a variety of things…kids blocks, kids shoes, towels. I love having these pieces of my family throughout my home.

        1. Wow, that’s so cool. So glad others love crocks as much as I do 😉 Thanks so much stopping by & leaving a comment! And thanks for the ideas you have to use crocks!

  10. I bought round plate glass tops for my 12 gallon and 20 gallon crocks. They are now unique end tables in my living room. The neutral clay color is pretty with my leather furniture. The glass tops add a modern touch to the vintage crocks; a look I really love a lot. I also use a 10 gallon crock as a hamper in the laundry room. Five gallon covered crocks are great for storing baking supplies or any other pantry staples.

    1. End tables are such a good idea, Cherrie! What wonderful ideas! Thanks for stopping by & leaving such a lovely comment.

  11. I have 3 and 10 gallon Crocks I use for making saurkraut and wine. I have two 10 gallon Crocks that cracked. I keep them in the cellar but up off the concrete floor. Anyone know the best way to store them to keep from cracking?

    1. Hi Kim,
Thanks so heartbreaking that your crocks have cracked! Is there any way you can put them up on some wood so they don’t crack? Did you know that Medalta is still around? They are a Canadian crock company. You could always contact them to find the best way to store them.
Thanks so much for stopping by.
      Hugs, Jamie
