My Decorating Style Series

My decorating style series will show you how to find your unique decorating style!

My decorating style series - So Much Better With Age

Have you ever wondered what your decorating style is? Does it fit in a nicely square box like “traditional”, “contemporary” or “country”. If you’re like most people, probably not.

So how do you find your unique decorating style when it’s not a cookie-cutter style?

My interior decor style has evolved over the years just like me. And it’s taken me awhile to truly feel confident in what my decorating style is. But I’ve narrowed it down and embraced it and the most important part – I’ve made it all my own.

My decorating style never fit into a mold. I basically love three styles and have combined them. What are those styles?

Industrial

Beachy

French

It’s a mouthful but it’s totally me. For years and years I’ve loved all three. My heart swoons over these three words. And for years and years I’ve fought to try to decide which style I love better than the other. Why fight it, I thought. Why not just embrace all three styles?

So when I set out to renovate and decorate the home we live in now, I decided to just go for it. Anytime I was faced with decision on what I should choose for hardware or lighting or paint colors, I asked myself…is it industrial, beachy or french? For quite awhile I stuck with the phrase “beachy french”. But I just couldn’t get away from that industrial/vintage look. Now I’m just making it all work.

You may wonder if you can do the same. Can you take a few of your favorite styles and combine them? Yes! Why not? If it’s truly something you love, why not embrace those styles together. Play around with the magazines you love. I love Country Living, Coastal Living and Restoration Hardware. That’s a winning combination if you ask me!

The French style could be taken so many ways. There’s French Country, French Provencal, Modern French, Rococo French and on and on. For me, French is a little vintage, a little shabby chic, a little rustic.

But whatever my style is it’s never overdone or cluttered. I like a simplistic, white, fresh, organized look so I’ve just carried that into my decorating style.

I’m going to share with you my decorating style in detail coming up soon {between now and the end of the year} because beginning of January I’m starting  a new series on my blog  – House Tours with an industrial/beachy/french decorating style.

What does that mean? If you have a room or house tour that contains just ONE of my favorite decorating styles, then you could be featured on So Much Better With Age.  Once a month I’ll be featuring a reader or a blogger for their industrial/beachy/french style.

I’m taking applications now. Please email [email protected]

Subject:  House Tour

with at least 3 photos of your room or house tour. It must contain either an industrial, beachy/coastal, or french decorating style.

Tours will be shown once a month beginning the first of the month beginning January 1, 2014.

Thanks everyone for joining the fun!!!

Update:  I’ve changed my house tour series to French or vintage decor and submissions from bloggers only at this time, thank you!
