Painted Pink and Metallic Gold Books

Make these pretty painted pink and metallic gold books for Valentine’s Day or for any day!

Gold mirror with roses, pink taper candles, pink fabric garland.

I love using decor that can be repurposed for seasonal decorating and for everyday decorating. This is why when I came up with this idea, I thought they would look perfect afterwards in my daughter’s bedroom. For now though, they are the perfect decor item for Valentine’s Day!

I didn’t get around to finishing them until after sharing my Pretty Pink Roses Valentine’s Table. If you look closely, you’ll see that the sides of the books aren’t painted gold. Oops! They are so pretty now though.

Let me show you this quick and easy DIY project, painted pink and metallic gold books. I’m also participating in a Valentine’s Day tour so be sure to visit my friends at the end of this post.

This was such an easy project with big impact. The absolute best kind of DIY projects!

Here is a before photo. And before you leave me comments about how awful it is to paint books, I know, I know. I understand it’s awful but I saw these sorry books in a bin for 25 cents in a thrift shop and now they are loved again!

A stack of old books.

Start by painting the exterior and spine of each book making sure to get the little bit on the inside cover.

These were brightly coloured books so I used a primer first then one coat of the Fusion Mineral Paint in Little Piggy.  For the red book, it needed two coats.

Once the soft pink paint dried, I painted the edges with Fusion Mineral Paint Pale Gold Metallic.

I used a foam brush but a flat artist’s brush helped get into the edges near the spine. One coat was all that was needed. Stand the books upright to dry.

And there you have some beautiful pink and metallic gold painted books.

Such a beautiful project to add to your Valentine’s decor or just about anywhere.

How beautiful would these be stacked be on a table by a guest bed?

I hope this inspired you to create your own pretty pink and gold painted books.

  1. Oh, how simply lovely. I can see myself using some vintage ribbon to secure the stack ,then possibly resting a few dried roses on top (because more is more in my book..).
Thank you for sharing this project with us. ♥

    1. Thank you Catherine. You’re right! Some vintage ribbon would look gorgeous wrapped around it with some dried roses. You’ve just set the perfect setting. I know what you’ll be doing now 😉

  2. FYI, before you put the pink books away you might enjoy Ian McEwan’s book, Saturday. It’s a fabulous story with lots of twists. He is a wonderful author you will certainly want to read again. And I enjoy your posts and style so very much! I love the grocery store bought spring flowers too. Roses are gorgeous.

  3. thanks for the bright idea… i used gold leaf to decorate as well just for a bit of contrast. I tried to add a photo but it would not let me.
