Making your own DIY Christmas crackers is fun and such a great gift to give your guests this Christmas.
The Christmas crackers that you buy in the store usually have cheap plastic toys that no one wants. Why not fill your own Christmas crackers with treats that everyone will love?
Ready to make your own? Let’s get started!
Here is what you need to make the DIY Christmas crackers.
Supplies:
- tissue paper
- toilet paper rolls
- cracker snaps (optional)
- printables cut out (see below)
- double-sided tape
- twine or ribbon
Directions:
- Take a long sheet of tissue paper and fold it in half lengthwise. Then cut it in half at the width.
- Optional: (I really wanted to do this part but ran out of time) tape crackers snaps to the inside of the toilet paper rolls.
- Take your toilet paper roll to the edge of the folded part of the tissue paper in the middle and tape it down.
- Roll the tissue paper around the toilet paper roll and tape at the end.
- Now take the printable (cut to toilet paper roll size) and roll it along the toilet paper roll. Tape it at the back.
- Tie one end with ribbon.
- Fill your cracker with Christmas goodies.
- Tie the other end.

Great idea, Jamie! Growing up in Ireland, Christmas crackers were an essential element of our Christmas dinner…but they were always filled with junky plastic gifts! This is a great idea to actually fill them with something clever, meaningful or fun!
Aren’t they so much fun?! Thanks Jenna!

These turned out great! I’ve made crackers before, but didn’t have the snaps. Definitely going to order some to make them more authentic and fun 🙂

What a great idea! I never thought about making my own. I love them but have been underwhelmed by the contents. Now I can create my own. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Mary! Yes, the store bought ones aren’t usually that great.

Am I the only one thought I was going to get a recipe for crackers ? 😉 You know, the kind you eat.
haha too funny, Eloise. My kids have a hamster named Crackers so that’s what they thought this post was about so you weren’t the only one confused!

These are cute printables for crackers! I made crackers for a few Christmases running, and one tip is to use 3 toilet rolls to form each one – lay them out lengthwise, wrap the paper around the middle one, overlapping onto the end ones, tie the bows and remove the end toilet rolls – this makes a nice rounded shape at each end. (sorry that is a bit hard to explain, hope it makes sense).
I love the style of your Christmas posts and home!
Thanks Fiona. Your description made total sense and that’s a great idea!
Merry Christmas
Hugs, Jamie
