I’m so excited to be sharing this Valentine project in this wonderful tour today with 24 other fabulous bloggers!
I love Valentine’s Day but I don’t really decorate for it.
I made a sweet little pillow for my sweetheart. It’s nice to bring some Valentine decor into the house without it being red or pink.
I’m going to show you how to make your own envelope pillow cover with vintage graphic!
I added the Valentine pillow to my master bedroom with indigo touches.
I got the graphic from the talented Graphics Fairy.
LOVE this adorable vintage cupid.
I made a pillow and used iron-on transfer paper to iron the graphic onto my linen fabric then sewed the pillow together.
This is the back of the pillow. I love toile.
Okay, I’m going to show you a tutorial on how to make an envelope pillow cover.
It’s my first time making an envelope-style pillow cover. I usually make a very plain pillow.
Sooo…I kinda messed this up but I know what I did wrong so I’m going to show you the photos of my how I made my pillow but I’ve put together an image with the the actual directions/dimensions at the end of this post.
Yep, you’re welcome.
SUPPLIES:
- two fabric squares, two different fabrics if you prefer
- scissors
- sewing machine
- iron and ironing board
- iron-on transfer paper
Avery T-shirt Transfers for Inkjet Printers, 8.5 x 11 Inches, Clear, 6 Sheets (03271) {affiliate link}
TUTORIAL:
1. Cut your fabric: one piece size 18×18″ and second piece size 18×20″ {note, you can use any size, just add 2″ to one fabric”}
2. Cut the larger 18×20″ piece in half {yep, in half. Don’t look at my photo below}
3. Hem one edge on each half about 1/2 inch {see photo below}.
4. Print image on iron-on transfer paper.
5. Place the image face up on the uncut piece of fabric. Remove the backing film.
6. Place a piece of parchment paper over your image and iron down the image moving the iron every 20 seconds to a different position.
7. Place two pieces together, right side facing in {I started with the bottom piece but you should really start with the top piece!}
8. Sew straight along each edge.
9. Now sew the bottom piece {not the top piece like the photo}.
10. Turn it right side right and you’ll have yourself an envelope pillow cover where you can easily place a pillow form inside.
{TIP: The reason this version really didn’t work was because the opening was too close to the top so it didn’t close that well. If you cut the back piece in half, it will open in the middle which will be way better!}
And here’s another tip: if you want to easily wash your new pillow cover in the future, make sure to wash your fabric first before you cut and sew them together.
Isn’t it adorable? Of course, it’s neutral and fits right into my decor.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

This is such a lovely touch to add to your bedroom. That’s exactly the way I make my envelope pillow covers too! You have stunning pictures…it’s been very nice to share the day with you on the Valentine Tour!
Thanks so much, Ann! You make it the same way? I feel so relieved. My first envelope pillow! Well, the way I did it the first time was wrong LOL.

How pretty and fabulous. You are giving me some great ideas. I forgot about the transfer stuff. I had used it for embroidery patterns and my hubby made t-shirts, but I never thought of pillows! LOVE it. My wheels are turning. Maybe I can come up with something WWII for my website for my novel The Girl in the Jitterbug Dress!
Thanks,
Tam Francis

TY so much for the tutorial. I am not a good DIY old lady although, all things need are in the basket. But this step by step to is so easy that even a 10 yr old can sew it.
BTW, your settie a gorgeous. I have chairs with this frenchy prints and puffs. Hope you can visit Stockholm just a quick peek, LoL*
Enjoy your weekend.

Hey Jamie! Great to ‘meet’ you & tour together! Love the pillow & was glad to read that Ann Drake does hers this way too as it is the way I do it as well. And since Ann is a pillow master we are in good company. Really like your blog. Sorry it took me forever & a day to get here, but we got hit with the flu at my house. Back now & enjoying the tour…Happy Valentine’s Day!!
