Glass Etched Vase Using My Silhouette

Crafts/DIY

Don’t you love these peonies? I got these for my birthday and decided they needed to be put in a spruced-up vase.

But I didn’t have a spruced-up vase so thought I should DIY one.

I finally tried the glass etching kit that I got with my Silhouette Cameo.

It’s so easy to make a glass etched vase! Who knew?!

Glass etched vase using Silhouette Cameo

Here is the glass etching starter kit I got from Silhouette to get me started on my project. You can buy it online or at craft store like Michael’s.

It comes with everything you need…all you need to supply is the glass. A vase is the perfect beginner’s choice I thought.

Supplies:

  • Silhouette glass etching starter kit
  • Silhouette Cameo
  • glass vase

Tutorial:

Check out my newbie Silhouette tutorial HERE

  1. In your Silhouette software, type, print and cut the words you want on the clear vinyl.
  2. Pull away the design you want etched with your hook tool.
  3. Carefully stick the stencil you just made on your vase. The adhesive backing allows you to stick it easily to glass.

(I know it’s difficult to see right now…but wait!)

4. Add the etching cream for no more than 60 seconds and remove it (you can add the excess back to the jar if you’d like). Wipe off excess with a paper towel and wash the glass.

5. When you peel away the vinyl stencil, you’re left with a beautiful glass etched vase!

I etched the word “fleurs”.

I’m in heaven with the way it turned out.

If I knew it was this easy, I would have done it much sooner!!

You did a fabulous job! And this was your first go ’round? I find that curved surfaces can be tricky sometimes, but yours is flawless! Love it!

Well, I did not know that! It was pretty easy because of the large font I think 😉

Omg, I love this!! Love your peonies, of course, as well. I laughed a bit when I read your post because I have a closet full of kits of this sort that I’ve never opened. (Never even unwrapped my glue gun!) Your explanation makes it so much less intimidating. My one question is about the cutting – are you actually cutting out the design with a scissors, a knife or the hook tool? I would imagine that’s the only thing limiting the complexity of the design? Thanks for sharing!!

Oh sorry that wasn’t clear, Lory! I made the words, printed and cutted them out on vinyl using my Silhouette Cameo machine. Essentially making it an adhesive stencil. Then I put the etching cream over the stencil. I’m literally a Silhouette newbie so if I can do this, so can you 😉

      Jamie

Our basement is the perfect place to store seasona Our basement is the perfect place to store seasonal / holiday / decor items. I’ve had plenty of it over the years (too much!) as I’ve been blogging for 10 years! I went through all my Christmas decor this year before I packed it all away and got rid of so much! It felt so good. 💚 Next, I’ll do the same for the other holidays coming up (like Easter, I have 2 bins just for Easter!). Decluttering is easier when it’s done in stages. I’m also really into minimal seasonal decor lately so I think it will be much easier to say goodbye to the extra ‘stuff’. 💚➡️ What about you?
