I Love Museums But Mostly Old Villages

Its summertime, and one of my favourite pastimes is visiting museums and old villages.

I love old museums & villages - So Much Better With Age

Yep, it’s true. I love museums. My love of vintage runs deep and it’s always been with me since I was little.

Whenever my family and I went on a road trip, I’d make my parents pull over to every little museum. I think my sister died of boredom.

But what I really love are the museums that show the way people used to live way back when.

Especially villages with their stores and houses.

I’m in complete heaven!

A few months ago I went on a field trip with my daughter and I think I was the most excited person there.

Which isn’t hard with a class full of three-year-olds in a museum.

An old store front called Bell's Dry Goods.

Because it’s summer vacation, I thought it was the perfect time to show you this little village.

It’s called the Burnaby Village Museum and only about a 30 minute drive away from where I live.

Bell’s Dry Goods store is the cutest filled with antiques and vintage finds!

Antique cool and hat boxes plus a old fashioned dress for a child.

I would love to shop in a store like this.

Fabric on a shelf.

Or live there. Wouldn’t it be the cutest house?

There is an antique cash register on the shelf.

The shop owner would have lived in the back of the store.

Here’s the tiny bedroom at the back.

And tiny kitchen. So cute.

The employees of the museum are in full costume as they walk around and be the complete character they are supposed to be.

Think Disney characters but more serious.

Sweet ride! I would love to be chauffeured around in this gorgeous antique car.

Another favourite of mine was the bank.

Love the bank manager’s office. The light fixture, the desk, all that wood.

I want this wooden filing cabinet!!

I have a very similar typewriter myself.

Apparently this heritage building was an actual bank that was put on a barge and sent to this museum.

I wish they sent it to me.

The bank teller window.

Another favourite building was the printing shop.

Look at those pieces of furniture!!

Love the green light fixture.

Watching that printer in action was very cool.

An old print shop with the printing machine.

Be still my heart. I could take every one of these printing drawers with me.

Drawers containing the letters for the print shop.

And this desk.

I need to get my typewriter to work and I’d be set!

Mailed letters for everyone!

This is the cutest school house. I love the cedar siding.

A 1922 schoolhouse called Seaforth School.

There was only one thing that interested the three-year-olds and that was this real ice cream parlour. Oh and the carousel ride. The carousel was pretty cool. I think the ice cream was the highlight though.

  1. Love, love, love. Where is this? I can just smell the musty, yet historical smells of paper, wood and life once lived! Love!

    1. Oh sorry, Pam. I forgot the link. I’ve added it now. It’s just outside of Vancouver (Canada).
Glad to find a fellow lover of old towns.

  2. We live just a few blocks away and my oldest loves to walk around the village. My absolute favourite is the yellow farm house near the entrance. Every time I walk through I wish I could move in! And I wish I could actually shop the dry goods store.

We haven’t managed to make it there this summer but you’ve inspired me to make time before school starts!
