Love your home

I’ve been learning to re-love my home over the last two years or so. This year will mark the 10 year anniversary since I purchased it in 2015. I thought it was going to be a temporary home and was going to sell it after two years. But each time I thought about it and did research about selling, it just didn’t make sense to move. Because the alternatives out there weren’t better.

Sometimes this house can feel too much for me to keep and other times I don’t want to let it go. For now, I’m loving it and making it mine.

What do I mean ‘make it mine’? Isn’t it already mine?

I think I’ve had a love / hate relationship with my home since I bought it because it wasn’t the type of house I wanted in terms of architecture or layout. I also didn’t think it was ‘perfect enough’ by social media standards or interior designer standards. I would tell people or show people my home and make excuses for it. How rude of me? I’m sorry home, I really and truly do love you. I’m grateful for you.

I was caught up in the comparison game for many, many years. And then a humbling thing happened, my IG account was hacked at over 33K followers. And then none of it mattered. I started to focus on other things beside my home and then realized the things that are important to me. What matters is that we make memories here and a home filled with lots of laughter and love. And now I can do what I want with my home and not have to redesign or redecorate or re-renovate just because...just because the renovations are 10 years old now or because it’s not on trend or because....the list goes on.

I gotten rid of all the extra ‘stuff’ in my house and living more minimalistically (if that’s a word and if I can make that possible). In 2025, I still want to do a few things to my house (I’m going to be swapping out some light fixtures soon) but I no longer care about doing it for anyone else but myself.

Merry Christmas Eve 🎄🎁🎅 Everything is done and now get to enjoy the holidays. This year’s new Christmas tree has no flocking! I got it from the Canvas line at @canadiantire. And I replaced the second flocked tree I always put in the dining room with a Charlie Brown type Christmas tree that I got from @ikeacanada years ago and it has all the kids’ ornaments on it.
