I have too much stuff, especially when it comes to DIY, stationary, and memorabilia. However, I spent the last years since the first lockdown decluttering where ever I could. Some spaces in my home, such as the kitchen, I decluttered more than once. Over the time I realised, that my favourite way of minimalism is in deed owning much less stuff, but to have some spots in my home where artwork, decoration items or keepsakes are coralled. I love the look of it, and it doesn't give me this awful feeling of nourishing my anxiety by clutter.

In reply to <a href="https://somuchbetterwithage.com/becoming-minimalist-with-collections/#comment-229441">Anna</a>.

Hi Anna,
I'm so happy my post resonated with you. I've never thought of becoming a minimalist (until recently) because I love some of my things too much. But I think it's okay to have the best of both worlds, right? I've gotten rid of so much too knowing that I can keep the decor items I really love. And I agree, it brings more joy and happy memories.

I grew up antiquing with my mother which I loved and thus became a natural born collector. I began my journey of decluttering from 25 yrs in the same home. My interest in truely living more minimally only began 3 months ago. Since I do have collections your article caught my eye and was encouraging. I only keep what I love and rotate my display depending on season. My decor really does bring me joy. The entire process takes time but I committed to living more simply but with items that also bring joy and happy memories.

Hi Suzanne,
I love your sweet comment and it got me thinking...I don't want to burden my children with extra stuff too. It takes me a few rounds to go through things too. Thanks for sharing! Sometimes it does take something like a broken confit pot to get the ball rolling.

Thanks so much, Pat. I nearly threw away that old cabinet too but once I brushed off all the cobwebs and took off the leftover paint, I realized how beautiful it is. I love that patina and it's something that's so hard to recreate. I love your ideas for not storing away what you love.
