Thank you for your comment, Margo. My mom used to sew our clothes too and so many items. Necessity is the mother of invention!! It's so true!! I hope you can fix your mirror and lamp. It's a creative journey sometimes doing DIY, right?!

Thank you, Jamie for sending this post to me. What an opportune time! I did my first piece with chalk paint yesterday. I took an old gold leaf mirror that hung in my mother’s house since the 1940’s. I painted both it and a lamp with a basic white color. My husband decided to “help” me. When trying to sand today it would seem that he applied way too much paint in a 3 rd coat. It took a lot to distress both items to the type of finish I wanted. But looking at the wax application info you have I realize that I can probably improve both pieces by doing this.
I agree with your comments about what we teach kids today. I wonder where they learn to sew or any home making skills. Nowadays people hire someone to do almost everything for them. My mom taught me to sew. She was my best friend. The summer before I could legally work she took me to buy material and we each made bedspreads and curtains for our bedrooms. I always had something different to wear. I would take patterns and cut them up to make a different design. Through the years I’ve always made home furnishings because like you, I couldn’t find what I had dreamt up in my mind. It is a pleasure to see what you do with your talent. I always say that necessity is the mother of invention!
