7 Habits I Do Every Single Day
These are 7 habits I have done every day for years and years and find it makes such a difference!
I am a creature of habits. Many habits. I love bettering myself and have read self-help books for years and I’m also so intrigued on how to make my life better and my days to run smoothly. This obviously isn’t new – to have habits for a morning routine and nighttime evening. Research has shown the multiple benefits it adds to our lives. Today I’m sharing my 7 habits that I do that helps me feel better about my day.
Morning Routine
1.Make my bed.
As soon as I wake up, I make my bed. I make it before I even leave my room in the morning. I feel like it sets the momentum for the day. There’s nothing better than getting into a made bed at night as well. When life is busy and if I don’t get all that I want to in a day, it feels good when this one thing is accomplished.
I usually wake up somewhere between 6:30-7 am.

2. Exercise
After I make my bed, I put on my workout clothes and go down to my basement to work out.
There’s very few times I don’t work out, I work out every day. Now when I say that I don’t mean I do a HIIT session every day, but I always get on the treadmill every morning then lift weights. I see a personal trainer once a week as well. When it’s nice out, I like to take hikes near my house and bike.
My goal is to get between 10,000-15,000 steps in daily. If I do an inclined walk on the treadmill for about 40 minutes, that roughly 5000 steps. I have three floors in my house so running up and down the stairs for most of the day adds another 2000 steps to my day and I try to do something else towards the end of the day that makes it go to 10,000. When the weather is nice, adding a hike brings it up to 15-20,000 steps.

3. Smoothie, Vitamins, Tea, Emails, Texts, Etc.
After my workout, I unload the dishwasher, I make my smoothie, and take my vitamins. I’ll make myself a tea if I’m working from home that day or else I don’t have a drink if I’m on the road.
Then I go through all my emails and I always go through my junk/spam folder. I don’t like that little red notification dot on anything! I check texts, DMs and my daytimer to see what is happening for the day and week and plan accordingly.

4. Always change into clothes-not PJs
I always find I’m more productive when I wear my regular ‘uniform’ – jeans and a top. I looove jeans and have so many. I always switch out of my workout clothes and change into my ‘uniform’. I never wear PJs or loungewear. The only day I might be in loungewear is on a Sunday if I’m staying home. I know lots of people still feel productive wearing loungewear but I don’t so it just works for me.
I then put on my morning skincare and makeup. No. 3 and 4 routines are sometimes mixed up. I might drink my smoothie while getting ready or sit at my desk while drinking my smoothie then put on my makeup. Anyway, you get the idea.

Evening Routine
5. Clean the kitchen and quick tidy up
There’s nothing better than setting up the next day for success so I make sure the kitchen is clean and that I’ve tidied up. I check to see what is happening tomorrow and double check with the kids if their laptops are charged for school.
I make sure the living room is tidy, dishwasher is going, generally everything is done before heading upstairs. I usually go upstairs to get ready for bed at 9 pm so if my son is still out, he knows the routine to come home, set the alarm, and turn of any lights.

6. Nightly getting ready routine
My kids wear uniforms to school so I usually put a load of laundry in of clothing items that they need to wear again (this is besides the laundry I’ve done during the day, usually one load during the day at the minimum). I’ll then hop in the shower and start my evening routine.
I always have a shower at night. I usually have one as well after my workout but sometimes due to time, I skip the morning shower. But the evening shower I never skip. It helps me wind down for the day. I only wash my hair every third day (I live for my dry shampoo!) so sometimes I’ll wash my hair at night, dry it 80% then put it in a bun to sleep in.
I do my skincare routine and use a retinol every second or third day.
I then go put that load of laundry in the dryer as it will be washed by the time I’m done this routine.

7. Read my book or meditate.
I love reading at night. I’ve done it for as long as I can remember. It makes me sleepy so it’s a good routine. I switch between paper books and my Kindle. My cat will jump on the bed at this point, she knows my routine well. The blanket on the corner of my bed is for her and she’ll sleep on it most of the night.
I’m now getting into the routine of listening to a meditation app a few times a week instead of reading which I love too.

Okay, that is it! I have lots of other little things I do but these are the main ones. I find it so helpful and makes my day go smoothly (as much as that is possible!).
Is this similar to your routine? I’d love to know in the comments below!

Good morning,
You mention your children’s uniforms… so that tells me they are still at home. I’m curious about them in your morning routine…where are they?
Hi Joan,
Yes, thank you for asking! I usually do my workout routine, then get somewhere between unloading the dishwasher and taking vitamins then I take the kids to school. When I get back, I’ll make my smoothie and start my day. For the evening routine, they usually get ready for bed around the same time I do.
Hugs, Jamie
