How I transformed my large foyer into a welcoming entrance.

When I first started this blog a year and a half ago, we had just done major renovations and the decorating was sparse. But I’ve now added many vintage touches.
It’s a huge foyer, the photos won’t do it justice. When we first toured this house, I didn’t know if I liked a large foyer but now I love it. I think it’s a great transition into all the rooms and such a welcoming entrance to our home. Enjoy the before and afters!
BEFORE
(notice the carpet on the ledge by the window YUCK!)
We removed the french doors to create a more open floor plan.
AFTER
I added the birdcage cloche and ceramic urn. Both are from Home Sense. I made the topiary and the metal tray is a antique store find.
This old bench was a freebie. I painted it white and distressed it a bit. It was painted black so some of the black shows through a bit now which I like. I love old crocks!! The Pepsi crate was an antique store find as well.
Those two large pillows are from Restoration Hardware and above the bench is a convex mirror. We hang my son’s artwork on the metal rack from RH.
We purchased this chandelier from RH too and my gallery wall is up on the top floor by the bedrooms.
Those old keys were the original keys to our old previous house. Love them!
Here’s the view from above.
Yes, the carpet ledge is gone!
The last photo is a sign I painted last year that says Est. 2009 and when I purchased the wooden sign from Michael’s I think it said Home Sweet Home. I painted it a beautiful blue colour and distressed it a bit. The rusty metal plaque was already on it. I took it off before painting it. I just added twine to hang it up and give it a rustic look.
And there you have it! Our new and improved foyer…better with age 😉
Your blog makes me so excited to have a house of our own. My husband is still in school and so we’re living in an apartment until we know where we’ll end up. Lame.
Thanks! It’s definitely fun to decorate your own home. I’ve lived in many different apartments over the years so I know what it feels like. Keep a binder with magazine tear-outs of all the things you like and of course blogs so when you do get your house you’ll know exactly what to do with it 😉
