Faux Zinc Paint Technique
I will show you how you can turn anything into a zinc look with this faux zinc paint technique.
Welcome back to another exciting episode of Trash To Treasure ! We started this series last month where we take some “trash” and turn it into “treasure”! Last month I made my baby girl a treasure box so my son really wanted one this month.
Here is my trash. This metal mini locker was in great shape but the colors weren’t my thing and the Sun-Rype sticker had to go.
It was $2 at a thrift store. I’ve been wanting to try a faux zinc paint technique for awhile now and when I saw this easy tutorial over at Jones Design Co. I wanted to give it a try!
SUPPLIES:
- object to paint, something metal works great!
- flat black spray paint
- metallic craft paint {I used Martha Stewart metallic acrylic craft paint in Titanium}
- chip brush
TUTORIAL
1. First, I covered up the chrome handle and chrome number plate on the front and spray painted the entire locker flat black.
2. Next I got my paint supplies and I got to work on dry brushing. Just put a small amount of paint on your chip brush and wipe off on a rag or paper towel.
3. Then brush it on in different strokes until you get the look you’re happy with. It dries fast on metal so you have to move quickly. I started with the back and you can see a lot of brush strokes. I perfected my technique by the time I got to the front 😉
And that’s it!
It looks great in my son’s room!
He already has some treasures hidden inside.
I love the little number plate. You could barely notice it before.
I’m really happy with the results!
Now be sure to follow my c0-hosts to see how they turned their trash into treasure!!

Greetings from Malaysia.
Great faux zinc tutorial , good job Jamie.
I’m about to faux my iron gate with this technique.
Can I know whether I should repaint a finished/painted area with multiple layers of metallic paint?
