Maximizing Space for Vancouver Living

Check out all the inspiration for maximizing every square inch in our homes!

More than anything I’ve ever been known for (DIY, decorating, baking, my love of French vintage items), my core has always been organization! I think the biggest hint was when I started to organize my mom’s kitchen cabinets for fun as a young girl!

I find it helps my mental health keeping things organized and everything in its place. It cuts down on the confusion of where items are and saves time and my sanity. It helps everyone in the house know where to find their stuff when they are rushing out the door in the morning. Who doesn’t want that kind of life, right?!

Being organized is one thing, being organized in small spaces is quite another. Vancouver is one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in so we have to make it our goal to maximize every inch.

Having a clutter-less home and maximizing every square inch is something I’m continually striving to do in my every day life. I’m letting go of items that I’ve been hanging on to that no longer serve me and feeling drawn to a cleaner aesthetic (but don’t worry, vintage will always be my true love!)

INSPIRATION

Lately, I’ve been incredibly inspired by people like Alison Mazurek of @600sqftandababy. Rather than filling a home with decor and items ‘just because’, she makes use of her tiny space and puts the items that are practically used daily to become the home decor item. I think that is super creative and challenging.

LET’S GET TO IT!

Let’s check out some other beautiful and inspiring images that maximize every square inch!

If you have a tiny kitchen, why not take those cupboards right to the ceiling to make maximum use of the vertical wall space. This home from @transition_id is genius!

If we move to downsize to a smaller home, those large sofas won’t fit in your new space. It’s much better to purchase the items that fit your space perfectly. This living room from @thenewsmallhouse does just that and makes it look so good!

So many hallways in apartments are long and useless. Why not add some storage along a wall? Even if they are not very deep, they would still be useful.

Using a wall drying rack reduces a lot of space that can be tucked out of the way.

I have a similar need to hang dry clothing but not enough wall space so I found this extendable drying rack to put above my window in my laundry room.

No front entry wall closet? Use the wall when you first enter your home to create your own storage system like this beautiful space from @camillestyles and @calclosets.

Awkward nooks can be used to create a little home office area. Every square inch was used in this space!

Do you have a hallway or walk-thru in your home that is under utilized? Make it into a homework station or home office like Tiffany of Pretty Real did.

If you don’t have a dining room, a kitchen nook makes the best use of dining space.

Utilizing the space above the sofa in a living room is the perfect place to display items and store books. You just need to make sure they are securely fastened into the studs and you are good to go!

My coworker Emma at California Closets created this beautiful wall bed for a client. This is the ultimate in space maximization!
