Real Wood Custom Vanities For Less
I will show you how you can put together your own custom vanity with real wood for less than you think!
When we did our house renovations, we needed all new bathroom vanities. Of course, I wanted marble or granite countertops.
But they are expensive. The other thing I wanted? The vanities to be made with real wood.
I have a real thing these days with stuff being made with MDF and veneer products. Sure, they are okay for when you are furnishing your first apartment but they aren’t really going to last.
Veneers peel, MDF is well, MDF.
What I really wanted were custom vanities. But my budget was limited. So I tried to come up with a solution to get my real wood cabinets AND my granite or marble countertops and still come in under budget!
Want to know how I did it?
When we were renovating our home, I spent a lot of time at Home Depot. Okay, we didn’t renovate our home ourselves but I was always picking out stuff and trying to come up with a solution to my low budget/high end taste.
And then I found these beauties:

Yep, carrera marble and granite countertops PRE-MADE, pre-drilled for faucets with undermount sink! Amazing.
The thing is, I didn’t like any of the cabinets that went along with them. Some were okay and looked really good online but when I saw some in the store I wasn’t impressed.
I thought there wasn’t going to be any way those would hold up over time in a humid bathroom.
Now, I made me totally wrong in that! You could have some beautiful Home Depot cabinets or other big-box-hardware-store vanity and love them. And I’m not bashing Home Deport or getting paid to do this post. But I do love their pre-made countertops.
And do you remember those 80s peach marble vanity tops with the scalloped-edge sink? Yeah, not so pretty.
And that’s pretty much the reason why I almost avoided this whole scenario in the first place.
But here is what I did:
I went ahead and ordered those countertops online (on sale!) and found a guy to build me those cabinets for a steal!!
Now I know what you are thinking.
‘Well, Jamie, that’s all fine and good if you know a guy that makes real wood vanity cabinets for a steal but I don’t!’
And honestly, I’ve debated on doing this post because of that.
How is everyone in North America going to contact my “guy” to get their awesomely-priced vanity and how could he not then up the price for all the awesome referrals I give him??
Honestly, it kept me up at night. I kid.
Well, I got to thinking that maybe you have a family friend or son who went to woodwork shop or maybe you wan to download some awesome furniture plans from Ana White’s blog and make your own custom vanities.
Or you could find a cabinet or old dresser at a thrift shop and rework some of the insides to fit some bathroom pipes. Anything’s possible.
I just didn’t want you to miss out on your chance to get your carrera marble or grey marble countertop when you’re renovating your bathroom.
And if you know a “guy” or “girl” who wants to make you one, make sure you add some special details that give it a truly custom look.
The other nice thing about having real wood vanities is that I can paint them later.
I’m already thinking of painting these one day.

I love how your bathroom came out. Does it bother you at all that the drawers and doors appear to not fit perfectly inside the openings? At first I thought you painted all around with dark paint to accent them. But looking closer, I think the openings for the drawers and cabinet doors were cut slightly too big.
