Exterior House Color with White or Light Trim

Check out lots of examples of different exterior house colors with white or light trim!

I’ve been considering painting my house and always looking at houses when I drive around neighborhoods. One thing to consider when painting your home is what color or your windows, your gutters and your soffits.

Back when I renovated my house in 2015 I had the gutters replaced to white to contrast my dark grey house and I don’t want to replace the gutters so I’m keeping the gutters/trim work white and seeing what goes with it.

Here is a photo of my house to give you an idea (almost my indoor cat is always trying to get outside).

Does the white trim need to be stark white?

When I say white trim, it doesn’t have to be a stark white. A creamy white to almost beige will look ‘white’ against the contrast of your house color and where you live in the world. For instance, warm and bright climates can have a beige white as the sun is always shining. Where I live in North Vancouver, BC Canada it can be pretty dark with the rain and the tall trees so a brighter white doesn’t look to stark.

The best and only way to figure out what works for a white trim is to sample them on your house. It’s just like picking any white or grey paint color where you have to sample it but you would absolutely need to do this for exterior paint color. There are too many variables outdoors that can change the way a paint color can look.

What are some good white paint color choices for trim?

Here are some good choices for white/light paint trim:

Sherwin Williams:

  • Pure White
  • Snowbound
  • Alabaster
  • Oyster White
  • Natural Choice

Benjamin Moore:

  • Simply White
  • White Dove
  • Classic Gray
  • Pale Oak
  • Seashell

If you have white vinyl windows, should you paint your trim white?

Yes. Sometimes you can change the color but most times it looks best to keep white vinyl windows with a white trim. Unless the body of the house is white and you are painting the trim a different color.

Love this beige almost light green color. The paint color for the trim and fascia is a creamy white.

Again, you cannot go wrong with a charcoal grey color.

The light grey looks nice with the stone work and different features. The white shutters make the two windows pop.

Love this creamy white with stark white trim. I personally couldn’t do a red door but nearly bold color would look good with these shades of white.

The blue shutters are an interesting choice that works but I’m particularly interested in the main beige color of the house with the white trim. A classic look.

White on white! I think this could get very stark looking if done incorrectly but it works here. Love the light grey shutters and gold accents.
