Paint is one of the easiest things in design to dramatically change the look and feel of a space. So if paint is something that is so easy, why do so many people struggle to pick a paint color?

First, the act of painting sucks lol. We’ve all done it and it takes many coats and a lot of time. And if you hire someone to do it, it’s expensive.

Second, what if we go through all the trouble of painting and we don’t like the color. Or it doesn’t match with the flooring, cabinets, sofa, etc. etc. The color in a room can make you feel a certain way. Have you ever walked into an entire room painted all bright yellow or another bright color? You can feel the energy! With so much riding on a can of paint, it’s no wonder that it’s the top searched subject on my website. We don’t want to have to change paint colors that often and we want a color that will grow with us and that we’ll still love years from now. That’s a tall order!

I’m here to help you today. If you are tired of boring white, then this post is for you. And let me elaborate on the word boring, because my whole house is painted white and I don’t think it’s boring. For my house, I live in a very rainy rainforest nestled in the woods near Grouse Mountain, North Vancouver. I need to brighten my house up as much as possible so for me, I learned that white was the way to go. You should always use samples to see the colors you’re interested in before committing to painting, this way you can make sure the color matches the feeling you want for your house.

The best paint colors are timeless hues that you love and will outlast any trend. So here are my timeless paint colors of 2026 and beyond!

Timeless Paint Colors

These non-white paint colors (in light, medium or dark hue) are colors you may want to paint your kitchen cabinets with, a bedroom, or a small powder room.

Whether you want to color drench a room (painting the walls, trim, ceiling, doors all the same color), or just paint the walls a color other than white, I’m here to guide you.

In this list, you’ll see I’ve included Samplize links so that you can easily order samples of each color. This way you can see how the color will look in your space and get it right the first time. Sampling is so important when searching for the perfect color!

Medium Pink Paint Colors

This pink isn’t the light pink of a little girl’s room (but it can be!). This is a grown-up pink and a timeless color.

@heidicaillierdesign does an amazing job with medium pink paint colors like the bathroom she designed below. Perfect color for a vintage home or one that’s made to look vintage.

Medium Pink Benjamin Moore colors of Chippendale Rosetone, Texas Rose, Palmetto Pink.

dark brown/burgundy paint colors

I love how @blancmarineliving has almost color drenched this room but has left the ceiling white to keep it open. This dark brown or burgundy paint color gives library vibes and is a beautiful timeless color.

medium taupe (or greige) paint colors

Medium taupe or greige paint colors aren’t going away anytime soon. And Parris McKenna Design does a perfect job sharing that with this kitchen. Greige paint colors go well with browns and greys so it’s the perfect warm color that we will not grow tired of.

medium taupe/yellow paint colors

This muted yellow color is just dreamy from Jean Stoffer Design. Perfect for kitchen cabinets, laundry rooms and butler pantries. It reminds me of my grandma’s laundry room when I was little so it’s definitely a timeless color.

almost black paint colors

Black will never go out of style which is displayed in this powder room by @parkandoakdesign. Instead of stark black, a dark green or charcoal makes it feel warmer.

dark blue paint colors

With Hale Navy becoming a huge trend about 10 years ago, dark blue has made a big explosion into the design field but blue has always been a classic color so it’s no surprise this color will remain timeless, just as @jhinteriordesign has shown us.

Dark blue paint colors by Benjamin Moore Hale Navy, Mysterious and Westcott Navy.

medium blue paint colors

These medium blue paint colors read like they are from a French chateau which I’d like to imagine this image is from. Paired with lots of moulding, it’s a timeless winner!

Medium blue paint colors by Benjamin Moore Van Courtland, Providence Blue and Templeton Gray.

light blue paint colors

@kateguinnessdesign proves that light blue, like these painted bookshelves, is still a classic color. Offset with blue’s complimentary orange color and this room will always be in style, because it’s timeless. Read more about complimentary colors here.

dark green paint colors

You may know my favorite color is green and this may be an all-time favorite shade of green. @devolkitchens always has the best kitchens and they are always in timeless colors.

medium green paint colors

This medium green color by @basic_projects is a close second for me. The color drenched room makes it feel so cozy especially with the fireplace, fabrics, and moulding.

Medium green paint colors by Benjamin Moore Antique Pewter, Avon Green, and Caldwell Green.

light/medium green paint colors

This bathroom has a light green almost yellow tint to it and it looks so lovely with all the moulding. @shannonclaire shows us that timeless paint colors in small bathrooms just work.

blue/gray/green paint colors

@briahammelinteriors shows that painting a small bathroom in a medium blue/gray/green paint color gives the room warmth and character. Doesn’t it just feel like this room belongs in a heritage house?

Light Taupe/Greige Paint Colors

My own dining room got some light taupe/greige paint color and moulding a few years back and it was a hard decision deciding between my three all-time favorite light taupe colors. I ultimately decided on Edgecomb Gray but as you can see below, they are all quite similar so I couldn’t go wrong.

How to Pick the Right Color For Your Space

Now that you’ve found the color you love for your home, how do you know it will actually work in the space? If you’ve read my other paint color blog posts, you’ll know that I say that you must try the paint color on your walls. Of course, we know we can go down to the paint store and buy paint samples of our favorite top 5 paint colors but that’s a lot of paint and time.

Or we can make a quick order to Samplize and have the exact paint color in a large peel-and-stick paint sample sent right to our home. The best part is that there is no wasted paint cans! There’s nothing worse than having a cabinet full of barely used paint cans or trying to dispose of them properly.

The Samplize peel-and-stick paint samples are a game changer. To really get a good sense of your paint color for a room or your whole house, you need to try it on different walls throughout different times of the day. That’s why they include 3 small peel-and-stick-samples to try in different walls throughout your home.

Even if you were to paint poster boards and move them around the house (that’s another way I’ve done it before) you still need to buy different cans of paint. Samplize takes care of that whole problem because they’re also made with two coats of real paint. And now with shipping to Canada, I was a happy interior designer 🙂
